The Highlight of the Trip
We start the day with an early departure from your hotel at 4:00 a.m. and head towards the sacred valley to reach the town of Soqma (3,205 m / 10,512 feet), which is the starting point, the trip will take us 1 hour and 40 minutes in our private transport.
Upon reaching the starting point, our muleteers will be waiting for us ready with the horses and we will have breakfast, after a nutritious breakfast we will begin the walk through one of the side valleys, we will walk for approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes until we reach the Perolniyoc waterfall that has a of the beautiful falls in the Cusco valley where we will take many photos and take our well-deserved rest to enjoy our snack and then continue the walk that will take us 1 hour to reach the archaeological center of Perolniyoc where you and your guide explore the ruins and He will share information about this Inca site and after exploring we will continue with the walk for 1 hour to reach the lunch place and the Rayan camp (3,700 meters / 12139 feet)
After a good breakfast we will continue the walk ascending for approx. 3 hours to reach the Puka kasa pass (4,450 m / 14,600 ft), for many people consider it the hardest part due to the altitude but you are rewarded with spectacular views of the sacred valley and snow capped mountains in different directions, after to take photos and a well-deserved rest we will descend for 30 minutes to arrive at lunch.
After lunch we will continue the walk for 2 hours along an undulating path to arrive at the second pass Kuychi K’asa (4,457 m / 14,619 feet) where the views are spectacular in all directions and then we walk downhill for 2:30 to reach the famous cover of the sun (inti punku 3,600 meters / 11,811 feet) with imposing views over the valley below and the Verónica mountain (5,682 meters / 18,641 feet) that rises above the horizon and we will spend the night in the camp called Choquetarpo that is find 30 minutes descending from Inti Punku.
The awake will be with a cup of coca tea or coffee later you will enjoy a good breakfast and then we will prepare our equipment to start the walk for an hour to reach Cachicata, the Inca Quarry (3,525 m / 11,564 feet) where we will explore and witness the work that the Incas were unable to complete due to the Spanish conquest.
Our guide will show us the remains of the unfinished stone work by the Incas and above all the guide will share his knowledge about this place and later we will continue with the itinerary that is to reach the town of Ollantaytambo (2,840 meters / 9186 feet) that will take us about 3 hours where we will have the last lunch and in the afternoon we will have a train connection to the town of Aguas Calientes, upon arrival we will do our check-in at the hotel. At night we will have dinner in one of the town’s restaurants (All meals included, except dinner)
Your guide will pick you up from your hotel after breakfast and take a bus to the citadel of “Machu Picchu” where you will enjoy a 3-hour guided tour of this magical place. And then you will be given free time to explore and take more pictures. You can also climb the mountains of Huaynapicchu or Machu Picchu if you wish. In the afternoon, you will descend by bus to the town of Aguas Calientes, where you will have free time to have lunch, explore the city and board the EXPEDITION train back to the Ollantaytambo or Poroy station according to scheduled service and train. After your transportation, a member of staff will pick you up and take you back to your hotel in the city of Cusco (4 hours drive from the city of Aguas Calientes).
